Note posted on the NHIAA website  under away team comments from Al Magnusson coach at Sanborn:

St Thomas was wonderfully respectful of Sanborns' struggles and played a well executed game of possession and intensity. The first 30 minutes was strong for Sanborn, only letting in 2 goals and actually generating a few decent bids towards goal. The experience and tactics of St Thomas wore Sanborn down and the goals came easy for them. Sanborn never gave upfighting to the end with head held high.

Friday night saw both Varsity and JV teams win their first games over Portsmouth.

Varsity in Portsmouth Herald  and in Fosters

Coaches wrap-up:

The boys varsity soccer team won their season opener against Portsmouth 3-1.  Just over nine minutes into the game Jeff King headed the ball into the net off a Mike Kubiczki corner kick for the game's first goal.  8 minutes later Eddie Conroy stole the ball from the Clipper midfield and dribbled through two defenders before beating the Portsmouth keeper top corner.  David Ham lead a strong defense with Kubiczki and two sophomores, Noah Schwaegerle and TJ Tetreault, playing in their first varsity start.  Jonathan DeWolfe rotated in to add his presence to the back line.(and with perfect timing got his photo in the Portsmouth Herald)  The Saints midfield of Co-Captain Mike Fort, Conroy, Jon DiPietro and Dan Perreault worked well in controlling the ball.  King and Jon Kiskinis started as strikers putting pressure on the Clipper defense.  Connor Bailey and Andrew Civiello saw time as outside midfielders adding to the St. Thomas possession game.  Portsmouth was able to score with 2 minutes left in the half when the Saints defense failed to clear a rebound. St. Thomas answered back just over a minute later when JJ Brunelle took a shot that rebounded off the Clipper's keeper and Conroy hammered it home.  The Saints continued to attack in the second half.   Peter Roginski and Jon Nartif both had shots that looked like they were going in but the Portsmouth keeper came up big.   Mike Dupont, Camdon Latimer, Evan Surprenant and Tapley Taylor all saw some time at the forward position putting pressure on the Clipper Defense.  Seldon Cook made 9 saves in his first complete varsity start between the posts for the Saints.

On a side note - Sebastian Olsen gets his name in the article and he wasn't even at the field.

The Freshmen team kicks off its season at Home on Monday at 4pm vs. cross town rival Dover.
